Testing and the Stroke of Midnight

It's funny the things that stick in your head.

Once, after a heavy conversation with a couple of my siblings, my brother Bill said, "Well, no one dies a minute before they're supposed to...".  That one sentence made so much sense to me.  We can do things to our bodies that make the time here more difficult, but the actual "lights out" won't happen one minute too soon.

As we round the corner to the New Year, I have had the pleasure of visiting all kinds of medical facilities.  I have seen the latest and greatest in diagnostic technology.  I am awestruck at how inventive the writers of Star Trek were so many years ago!  The fact that these tests can determine so much without invasive surgery is really incredible.   And really it wouldn't be so bad except it's hard to go through all sorts of tests without wondering if something will pop up to make "your moment" come pretty soon.

As the machines tapped, tapped, tapped, I had some thoughts.  I can't say any were revelations or epiphanies but these thoughts did make the time go a little faster.  I began thinking about the stroke of midnight - the close of 2007 and the beginning of 2008.

See, I have been a little bit hesitant about New Year's eve for some time now.  There were several years in a row where whatever I did on New Year's Eve seemed to follow me throughout the year.  Unfortunately, some of what happened wasn't so good, so even though I am not really superstitious, I took the quiet road for awhile.     If I didn't fall asleep before the stroke of midnight, I would watch old movies with just a quick click of the remote to see the ball drop at midnight.

I don't feel like doing that this year.  I am looking for something and, I guess I am kind of hoping something will blow my way.  Nothing miraculous or anything - just something.  Even though I may chicken out at the last moment, put on my slippers, and snuggle in for a cozy night at home, I am glad these particular thoughts cross my mind.  I'm pretty sure thinking about things I would love to see or do as the bell rings in 2008 was better than any other thoughts that might have creeped in...

Hey, a big hats off to all the professionals who studied me head to toe!

Have a safe and great New Year Folks!

Tim McGraw ~ Live Like You Were Dying

Ok I'm not sure about sky diving, or rocky mountain climbing but I would like to try 2.7 seconds on a bull named fumanchu!
